is
one
of
five
pieces
bought
in the
late
80s
or
early
90s
by the
Institute
for
Circumpolar
Health
Studies
(ICHS)
. The
pieces
were then
reframed
in
2006
by the
department
. On the
back
of the
piece
is
a
story
about
the
work
.
Artist
Background
:
Photographer
Rob
Stapleton
has an
extensive
background
worldwide
in
photojournalism
. This
experience
enables
him to
photograph
an
event
that not
only
tells
the
story
visually
, but
offers
the
perspective
of the
personalities
being
photographed
.
Stapleton
has
photographed
and
published
magazine
assignments
for
Time
,
Life
,
People
,
Sports
Illustrated
,
Newsweek
, US
News
and
World
Report
and
Internationally
for
GEO
,
Paris
Match
,
Der
Stern
, and has an
extensive
history
with the
Associated
Press
.
Stapleton
was the
first
photographer
on the
Exxon
Valdez
Oil
Spill
in
1989
and has
covered
the
Iditarod
Sled
Dog
Race
21
years
from
start
to
finish
. As an
award
winning
member
of the
National
Press
Photographers
,
American
Society
of
Media
Photographers
the
Alaska
Press
Club
, as
well
as the
California
Press
Photographers
Association
,
Stapleton
has
exhibited
his
ability
to
capture
the
moment
.
